Unai Emery has confirmed are working on two deals ahead of transfer deadline day, but could end up leaving the January window empty-handed.
Gunners boss Emery is keen to strengthen his squad at the Emirates and Arsenal have expressed interest in signing ’s Denis Suarez and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.
Asked how many signings Arsenal could make before Thursday’s deadline, Emery said today: ‘Nil or the possibility of two. Between nil and two.
‘Zero if they aren’t coming to help us like we want, I would prefer that they don’t come.
‘And two because we are looking at two different players and the possiblity that they can come.’
Emery added: ‘This transfer window is not easy. The club is working with different players. If we can be, it will be good for us.
‘Will I be disappointed if there are no signings? No, we know it is not easy. We were speaking two months ago about this possibility and we know it is not easy.’
Arsenal have suffered a defensive injury crisis in recent weeks with Hector Bellerin ruled out for the rest of the season and Sokratis now out for a month.
But Emery has backed other players in the squad to help Arsenal cope with their absence.
‘We have enough players like a centre back in the squad,’ he added. ‘We are having a lot of injuries in this position but we have enough players.
‘If we can bring another player and all of the players want to play, we will have a problem in the future.’
Under Emery, the Gunners enjoyed a productive start to the season. But results have fallen away over the last month, with Arsenal losing three of their last six games in all competitions.
Asked whether he backs the current squad to turn things around, Emery said: ‘I trust in every player, I trust in our squad. Our focus if very clear – the Premier League.
‘It is the first focus and we are also going to play the Europa League with a big motivation because it is one title and one way to the Champions Leauge.
‘First competition for us now is the Premier League and tomorrow is a very important match against Cardiff.’
