Railway Union ended Ards‘ seven-year reign as women‘s National Indoor Trophy champions with a 6-1 win in the final at the Antrim Forum, winning their first title since 2010.

The victory owed much to a dominant performance from Orla Fox, who scored one, assisted a couple and took a few off the line.

Isobel Joyce got them up and running in the final within 25 seconds, and they were 3-0 up inside seven minutes via Fox and Anna-May Whelan. Becky Weir got one back before half-time but Railway eased home.

In the men‘s competition, Three Rock Rovers retained the title with something to spare, beating Railway in a final for a second successive week, running out 6-1 winners to earn their European ticket for 2020.

Luke Madeley broke the deadlock in the seventh minute before Eoin MacArthur levelled seconds later. But an unanswered streak of goals from Madeley, Ben Walker and Ross Canning put Rovers on course for success.

Outdoors, it was a weekend to remember for the Railway women as they defeated Ards 3-1 to reach the semi-final of the Irish Senior Cup. They join Loreto, Pegasus and Cork Harlequins in the final four.
